I rolled out of bed early for once and wanted to shoot really quick for a November update. With horrible coordination and a lack of a wireless remote, I attempted to do some self-photos. Trust me when I tell you that it was a hot mess, both with me and my inability to focus the camera. Just wanted to update with my new obsession! I got this kimono wrap thing at H&M during their Black Friday sale for $5. I thought it was such a fun piece and can easily be worn up or down. I also did my Christmas shopping during Black Friday and ended up splurging a lot on myself as a reward for getting other people gifts. Trust me, half of the things I bought in-stores and online were for myself. This past weekend destroyed my credit card! I was going to do a haul post/review on the items I got because several of them were also skincare items as well as online purchases, but I'm honestly so busy that I might just save it for another post.

I have been extremely busy the moment I got back from Thanksgiving break. It was one thing after the next and I'm just seriously overwhelmed. There's projects, hurdles, plannings, exams coming my way like no end. Everyone's in finals mode and I can't believe I'm still preparing for my third set of exams. I'm never getting out of school, am I? Despite all of this, I feel...okay. Honestly, I'm slowly becoming a person who expresses my emotions a lot more. I used to be good at controlling them, but lately, I feel like outwardly expressing them helps me deal with them internally. I had it really bad last month where I was just completely down and hopeless, but this month, I learned to take it one day at a time. I have two exams Friday, my most intense ones, and I've been preparing since Monday. Day by day I tackle a project and tried my best to split them up. Although my face is taking a toll by breaking out again, my spirit is still strong this week and I'm surprised! At the moment, I am not extremely scared despite feeling unprepared and I have a lot of things on my mind and problems bothering me, but...I'm getting there. Tomorrow is going to be a long day and night of studying though. Optimism!

Although I will not annoy you with my haul yet, here's a glimpse of my favorite purchases. Marc Jacob's Lola (my first perfume EVER! Look at me, I'm a mature adult) and a splurge for an adorable necklace from Aldo.
I apologize for a lack of a November wrap-up. I swear, I had it prepared, but I just felt like the picture quality wasn't as great as I wanted to and a lot of it was just food pictures so I wanted to spare any college students procrastinating by trolling my blog at 4am the pain. I know how it feels, hehe.

Before I end this post, I just want to give a little attention to a very special project that one of my high school friends, Samantha is doing. Samantha is an engineering major at U of I and is one of the sweetest, funniest, and manliest Polish chick I've ever met. Four years of laughter were contributed by her. She's planning on biking across America this summer and talk to cancer patients and survivors, as part of the Illini 4000 for Cancer. I personally have been impacted by cancer in the family and it's such an empowering journey not only for the patients and survivors themselves, but also for those who are indirectly affected. I think what she's doing is not only going to help her personally, but also positively affect others. If you can, please check out her organization page: Illini4000 and help her make this trip possible!

Stay happy and warm!

Ai Nhu

Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-24676640317895163262011-11-13T20:32:00.002-06:002011-11-13T20:33:21.567-06:00Marry You

Anh Tung and Chi Tuyet's wedding reception. It sure has been such a hectic, but absolutely fun month for me! I just finished my second set of hell week, broke out like crazy, and experienced a lot of fun things like it was my first time.
I got the chance to go to Six Flags' Fright Fest for the very first time with Loyola Breakers. It was such an amazing experience. I've been to amusement parks and roller coasters before but it was nothing like Six Flags. Vertical Velocity really left me with tears in my eyes, and I love every moment of it. Our team went onto Raging Bull three times, and since it wasn't super crowded and the weather was so nice, I had a wonderful time bonding with the team.

Here's a club photo courtesy of Chong's fb!

Another highlight of this month was going to Wisconsin for a NS-HS-HT retreat with TNTT, the Eucharistic Youth Society. In the spirit of Halloween, I originally wanted to see Paranormal Activity 3 since I love crazy, scary stuff. However, a certain friend of mine (who I shall not put on blast because I'm such a good friend) chickened out at the last minute and we ended up watching Footloose, which was the worst decision ever. In an attempt to make up for the disappointment, the said friend and I ended up watching the Blair Witch project. All in all, it was just an alright movie. Everyone was raving about how good it was, but I guess it was a bit dry for my taste. I wanted a bit more horror...is that a bit sadistic on my part? :P

Finally, one of the BEST things about Halloween is....SAO BIEN'S ANNIVERSARY! Every year, our anniversary falls on Halloween weekend, but it doesn't matter. I would sacrifice anything for the world to celebrate with my family. I can't believe it's our 28th birthday. Last time I started counting was the 22nd. I forgot how long I've been part of this amazing family. No pictures from Saturday since I'm too lazy to upload them from my point-and-shoot, but here's a picture from Tam's fb of the morning-after breakfast! My Milwaukee boys, Andy and Tam, decided to spend the night in Chicago and ended up getting food all morning with Ha and was sweet enough to give me a wonderful wake-up call for (brunch). It's been so long since I've had Korean BBQ and it was just the best experience to hang out with the silliest people ever.

Sorry this is an abnormally long post with random pictures, but I just really wanted to share some great memories that I've had this month. I'm planning to do more monthly wrap-ups like these because I think it's a great chance to reflect. The seasons are definitely changing as rapid as the different events in my life. Within these past couple of weeks, the weather got freezing cold and rainy and suddenly sunny and became dress weather for the past couple of days. I finished getting sick, felt fine, and got re-sick again. I went through such stress with first exams as well as doing tons of lab reports, Mathematica lab write-ups, and everything else in between. I experienced different emotions with getting feedback from class and bonding with my classmates. My social, educational and family life really took off on a roller coaster ride within these weeks. Right now, everything is starting to simmer down and returning to normalcy, and I've never been happier!

Last week, I met up with my best friend Chong after school. Since we live in the same hood, we decided to take a stroll through the lakefront near our place. It was such a fun experience! I love shooting with other people because you can really try different things and have another perspective. It also helped that I was already comfortable with him since we've been close friends so I definitely had a good time. This week is a baby hell week compared to last week. Nonetheless, I've been super exhausted mentally and physically. My appetite has been destroyed since last week so I've been forever hungry but nauseous at everything I eat. I can't wait for fall break! I feel like this semester has been going so well! School is not extremely time consuming, with the right amount of work (with awesome co-workers and the best boss in the world, Jimmy!), VASA here and there and breaking at night, I feel like I'm constantly busy. I love it, though.

My mood has been extremely happy and super optimistic lately despite school work picking up and the weather being extremely disgusting. I'm just so thankful for those in my life right now. I'm having the time of my life and although I'm always tired, I have not regretted anything at all. I kind of used this outfit to demonstrate my mood this week, simple in black and white, but still a girly giddiness that's coming out. Content, light, happy...I love simplicity these days. What can I say? I'm simply happy :D

Ai Nhu
Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-22108385473772338282011-09-26T00:01:00.002-05:002011-09-26T00:52:19.384-05:00Final Period: Personal Finance
KELLY D

This outfit is really different compared to my usual style. After a day, I fell in love with her. She is pretty reserved and quiet, but once you get to know her, she is out of this world. She literally went through dark, high school days with me and put up with so much of my nonsense. I am so thankful that Debbie continued her journey with me at Loyola because I seriously don't know where I would be without her. Debbie was always a fashionista, but I love her because she was never show-offish about what she had. Her style is very laid back and classy, yet she does add a lot of whimsicality to it through accessorizing or unique textures on her blouses. I would have to say she is one of my fashion inspiration because she's the one that influenced me to try the neutral and mature looks as well as introducing me to Jewelmint! I was so glad that we had this shoot together and I feel like the older we get, the more we understand each other through fashion. Weird, huh? It is not something that everyone would wear and that is one of the reasons why I like it. In my opinion mixing these two brings a new sense of fashion.

Since I'm always at Kelly's house, Kasey also ends up helping us style and assisting us with shoots too so I was more than delighted to ask her to participate in the project. The outfit that Kasey chose definitely reflects her personality. She is a very playful and outgoing girl, and she expresses that in accessories and bold prints. Also, she has a very strong personality, and she's a very tough girl yet at the same time a ball of fun. Kasey and I match pretty well together because we're both light hearted and have very sarcastic humor, so it was extremely easy to work with her for this shoot. We went to a local park and started randomly climbing onto fixtures and playing with random stuff. It was such a fun shoot and despite it being super hot and sunny, I had such a great time thanks to Kasey's willingness to try just about anything I throw at her. We wanted to start something each season or holiday, present a general theme/concept and then have different people with unique personalities display how they would portray their distinct characteristics through their outfits. To test it out, I purposely asked my friends who are into fashion and who have very strong different personalities that contrast each other remarkably. I had the pleasure of hanging out with all of my wonderful friends during my last week of summer (out of 2 due to summer school) and was able to step behind the lens, which was very refreshing and exciting for me! Throughout this week, I will reveal each person each day and show how they rocked the theme 'back-to-school'.
I actually shot this outfit with Kelly a while ago before we even started the idea and I intended to post this outfit for the week of back to school anyways so it was perfect timing! Here is a geekier side of me. Unfortunately, this is how I actually am in real life, very different from the elegant Ai Nhu that I try to portray in my other posts.

***

This outfit describes the true nerd in me. Like the funky patterns, I am playful and geeky once you get to know me, and on a regular day, I am pretty laid back and dorky. I try to be elegant, but somehow the inner loser creeps out.

The key to my school style is comfort. I will have to wear this through a long day of classes, activities, and clubs. Sometimes, I sacrifice my comfort due to meetings or just the desire to look cute, but I'll always throw a pair of gym shoes and shorts in my bag to wear for the commute home :P

A must-have fashion item for school is a light cardigan. I learnt this the hard way in summer school when it would be 90 degrees outside and then 35 degrees in the classroom due to the air conditioning. After a 3 hour lab and a 2 hour lecture, I turn into an iceberg.

A tip for the new school year is to not try to be anyone but yourself. Spend your time impressing your professors and teachers academically, don't waste your time trying to impress others socially. You'll know who your real friends are.

My personal goal for this school year is to be spiritually, mentally, and physically healthy.

***

Last update (sorry this post is super lengthy, I just haven't had time to post since I've been getting ready for school and the project): Stylespirations got a twitter! I loved it so much and how comfortable it is that I've decided to do a shoot for it with Kelly today. We went to a park by the lake near our houses to shoot this and boy, it was hot! We were both sweating like roasted ducks but it was definitely fun! Being out in nature helped us with our creativity as we tried different poses and techniques. I got to say, I really love this set. You know what else I love? The inexpensive finds I got to put this outfit together, such as my new favorite wedges that I picked up yesterday from the Dolce Vita for Target line on clearance for $15 as well as the sheer, green top from an Asian site for $3! (minus shipping, it was a pretty penny -.-) I was never a person that was into wearing green, but lately, mint green has been one of my favorite colors! It's such a fresh and light color for August, keeping the outfit feeling vibrant yet not overwhelming.
I wanted to post more pictures of my outing with my godsister on this blog, but I'm honestly just too lazy to edit the rest (mostly yummy sushi pictures). I'll probably upload them onto my photo tumblr right here if you're interested in stalking it. I'll leave you with two teasers:

My beautiful godsister with her new shirt! We both were ecstatic at how cool it was. Honestly, it was totally silly at first but of course my gorgeous sister was able to rock it! Doesn't she look totally adorable??

Finally, I'll end with a funky picture of us. I truly fail at mirror pics *facepalm* I shall cease to take pictures with this pretty little lady because she outshines me too much...although I'm still the cuter one, right? :D

Stay happy and healthy!

Ai Nhu

PS. Weekdays are filled with classes, work, and (intense) studying. My free weekends, which are rare, are to catch up with folks and mostly studying. Last week, I went to another camping trip with my youth group in Wisconsin. It had to be one of the best joint camp (named Ket Than) with Dong Hanh and Nguon Song. It was very refreshing to see how energetic our kids were. They had so much spirit in the activities and they were all extremely positive and friendly with one another and it made me realize that I would never be the same person if it weren't for my youth group. They really gave me my optimistic outlook and motivate me with their faith.
I guess that, in a way, this outfit kind of describes how I have been feeling these past weeks (despite shooting this outfit in the beginning of July ^^). Although school is seriously eating my life, I have been feeling extremely happy with everything. The boldness in color and the playfulness in the polka dots (my current obsession) perfectly displays the giddiness of seeing old friends, eating new food, and meeting different people. Although my summer is almost coming to an end, I'm excited for all of the things to come my way: leadership training in Kansas, ending of summer school (2 more weeks baby!), catching up with more friends, school supplies shopping, and VASA planning! I guess I have been loving my life more after surviving yet another week of 2 exams in a row.

Good bye July! <3

Ai Nhu

PS. Like my skirt? It was a nice vacation although school is starting again tomorrow. I'm excited for this fresh opportunity to do even better. Although school has been a roller coaster since I've started college, I am determined to make it my best session. Positive energy is coming back to me!

I did this shoot this weekend with Kelly and we both had a blast playing in her yard. Despite this being a simple look, we thought it would be fun to play with the "American Gangster" for the fourth of July theme. Using the props in her lawn, we messed around and opted for the desperate housewife meets miss 60s bad girl to complete the American Gangster look. Enjoy~!

Ai Nhu

Abercombie&Fitch top - $20; Dress from Urban Outfitters - $20; Oxford shoes from UO - $20; Forever21 Sunglasses - $6; Lawn props not included :D

Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-52974398876307836972011-06-30T14:02:00.003-05:002011-06-30T14:10:42.569-05:00Billion Dollar BabySorry for being super MIA! I put this outfit together and shot it a long time ago, but I have been so preoccupied with summer school and youth group camp preparations that I have been neglecting my blog. No worries though, I have a lot more posts and outfits planned so hopefully July can go a lot smoother.

Lately, I have been wearing a lot more monotone colors. I feel like my style is a lot more relaxed now that I am back in school yet in a difference pacing with my life. So here is my little simple outfit which I tried to spice up with clunky jewelry. I paired a black Forever21 ruffled dress ($13) with a cropped gray floral shirt (also from F21 owned by Kelly) to give it a more spunky and playful feel yet still keep the outfit subtle. I was going for the more mature look yet still keep it youthful. Sorry for this rushed post, I'm late to my Transformers date with Debbie! Hope you all enjoy a wonderful July 4th weekend with your family and friends.
Stay safe! (from the heat :P)
-Ai NhuAi Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-87036016120799124832011-06-01T23:37:00.004-05:002011-06-02T00:15:33.958-05:00Hot Times

I have been feeling extremely happy lately for some reason. I guess the weather has relatively been getting better and there's a lot of fun things to look forward to this summer. Although I have work and summer school, I have camps with my youth group as well as random outings with my friends and family. I feel like now that I have more free time due to the summer, I was able to hang out with my parents more, and I guess that's why my mood has been up. I mean, they are my best friends and pretty cool roomates (free food, laundry service, and tons of laughter)!
I put this look together on Memorial Day when I came over to Kelly's to barbeque with her family and got icecream afterwards. It was extremely hot outside, and before any of you think that I'm super crazy for wearing long-sleeve, I guarantee you this shirt is super sheer and comfy and it also helps balance out the leg exposure. The highlight has to be my new SHOES! I have been looking for black wedged gladiators for the longest time. A couple of stores around the city has a few, but they were always at least $30, and you know that that would be way over my usual $20 per item limit. After looking for it for over a month and nearly gave in into buying a pair online from Forever21, I ran into these at Marshall's this weekend while suit shopping with my dad! At first, I didn't want to even pick it up because I thought it would be at least $40 since it's by Guess. Lo and behold, $20! What a steal! My mom thought I was nuts because I started hyperventilating. I was not only ecstatic about the price or the uniqueness of the lacing, but mainly about how comfortable it was. The shoes were extremely light and since it's wedged, there was less pressure on my foot.

Because this is a bargain-eccentric blog, I've decided to share some of my special shopping secrets to help you find exactly what you're looking for at a great price.

Set a budget about how much you're willing to spend on that particular item. One of the best ways to guilt yourself is by calculating how much it's worth to you. For example, my $20 shoes is worth 2.5 hours of my work time. Is it worth it? I think it's fair.

think of the discount. If the item is usually $50 but now $10 it's a steal, but if it's only a 25% discount and the item is already pricey, you might want to wait for another sale.

Don't force a fit. If an item isn't available in your size anymore don't try to settle

Go thrifting! Look for items that have potential for easy adjustments and alterations to make it look like it's designed for you

Dept stores like Marshal's and TJ Maxx has great cheap designer stuff for an amazing price

Hit smaller boutiques around town. They usually have the best steals

Check quality for holes, tears, stains. Just because it's marked down shouldn't mean that you should pay for a defected item

Look for similar items online first and do price and style comparisons

Find coupons online before you hit the stores. Some stores have special shipping deals or discount coupons around certain holidays so just search around first.

Have a lot of patience. It's not like it's the end of the world if you don't have the item at this minute. If you just wait, do a little digging around different stores, and with a little luck, you'll always win with great savings and a wonderful item.

Good luck and have fun!

-Ai Nhu

Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-89486929124800856072011-05-29T00:21:00.001-05:002011-05-29T00:23:53.928-05:00HomegrownI've been feeling so at peace with my life. Summer school started but I feel amazing. I'm at the point where I'm very happy with my relationships with those around me, and I'm so glad that I have a lot more free time to stay at home to not only hang out with my parents, but also for Ai Nhu time. The more that I'm at home, the more I feel at peace. I have been reading (surprise!) up about physics and Catholicism, talking to my dad about politics in Vietnam, watching movies with my mother, sewing (finally fixed the machine!) and planting flowers. For someone who's all about spontaneity and adventure, I've been a lot more happy with the mundane and simple stuff. I guess this is a part of maturity. I'm turning into a boring adult....NOT! :D

Anyways, onto the outfit. This was an extremely cheap yet fun outfit to put together. May is the month of spring, flowers and mom so I had some of these themes in mind while arranging these pieces. I thought it was very simple, laid-back and romantic yet at the same time quirky and cute. I've been obsessed with shorts lately and these $9 shorts from Forever21 doesn't disappoint! My favorite has to be the Free People top from Nordstrom rack for only $16! It's very lightweight yet very cute. I topped it off with a fringed crocheted vest from H&M's organic collection for only $10 and my comfy sandals that I stole from my mom. I think that my favorite part about this outfit is how comfortable I feel in it. It's perfect for 70 degree weather and although those have been rare in May, I still stalk the weather channel and make sure I take advantage of the warm weather whenever I can.

Stay happy!

-Ai Nhu
Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-47725666719082292132011-05-21T21:48:00.002-05:002011-05-21T22:04:19.476-05:00Lil' RebelDoesn't Kelly look like a boss? Hehe...this was one of the most exciting shoot that I've done at Kelly's place. Kelly got some new stuff and wanted me to put together some outfits for her, so we coordinated pieces from her closet along with her new purchases. Kasey, Kelly's sister, also contributed by doing her hair and makeup. It was such a fun collaboration for all of us and I hope to style and shoot more of the Diep sisters. I apologize for the inconsistency of the editing. These photos were actually taken on the same day as Kelly's birthday post photos, so my photography skills are still ultra n00b and it was super dark outside. However, this shoot actually helped me learn more about Light Room, one of the programs that I'm currently using to edit. The original pictures were disgusting orange because I didn't know the power of white balance during March, but while editing, I learnt how to manipulate different shades. Still have a long way to go, but it's exciting!

Til next time!

Ai Nhu

PS. I made a tumblr for my favorite pictures that I took a long time ago. Not photographer crap or anything, but just as something to document my progression. I have neglected it, but I am planning on updating a lot more. Praise the Lord, this semester has been one of the toughest times of my life. I did 18 credit hours, had a job, was doing Freshmen projects for physics, and was working on VASA by Night. It didn't help it that my classes were all continuations of materials from the fall, so it was extremely difficult. I'm thankful to finish and still be alive. I'm also very grateful for the friends, fun times, and memories I had with everyone.

I felt like I was maturing more and opening up myself more this semester than the last. I also felt that I was more exposed to different things and I was more willing to change. All in all, I just can't believe that I finished my first year of college. Let's just say that it was truly a life lesson. So far, I couldn't ask for a better time. Thank you to everyone who has made my college life amazing.

In terms of fashion, I just made the realization while shooting with Kelly today that the one year anniversary of Stylespirations was just a few days ago! Lately, I realized that I was extremely creative. I then understood that I usually get creative in times of stress and procrastination, linking to the event that I just had finals for a week and a half ago. I then remembered that last year, during AP testing, I created Stylespirations as a huge form of procrastination, and I remembered that May was a wonderful and fun month because of the blog, despite the stress from school. Kelly and I looked through the blog from the beginning and realized how much it has improved. Through different outfits, I saw the change in not only myself or the photography or the outfits, but my perspectives, the things that was going on around me, and my physical and mental change through the outfits. It is super cheesy to say but I believe the fashion has the ability to not only change how others "read" a person, but more importantly, the story that an individual wants to tell. This is why I was so addicted to fashion, and now with this blog, I feel like I'm starting to tell my story my way.

I apologize for the long post, but I just wanted to tell you all how important this blog is to me. To you, it may be just a fashion blog or a page of a girl showing off all the stuff she has, but to me, it is about creation and the things that I want to express and the different sides of me. It is a very personal story and I think it's a fun time capsule to document and store my maturation process. I'm at a very interesting period of my life and through fashion, I hope to use the things I love to show who I am, who I can be, who I want you to see me as, and who I want to see myself as.

Anyways, I'm not sure how to celebrate Stylespirations birthday. I first want to thank all of my close friends and my parents for supporting me, always reading my blogs and giving me input...and also gifting me cute stuff that can inspire me. I'm also truly thankful to Kelly, who gives up so much of her precious time to spend hours discussing, coordinating outfits, running around our neighborhoods in strange weather and timing just to take pictures of me and also sometimes being the victim of my styling and fail photography. Love you long time. I'm also thankful to TeenVogue who gave me the opportunity to be a part of a bigger fashion community. Finally, I want to thank all of the silent readers and people who don't personally know me but take the time of day to read my blog and try to understand me through my posts. I love your feedback and I look forward to personally talking to you all via comments and whatnot. I have a lot planned for this summer because of the freedom of time and the support of warm weather, so you will all see my new creations, styling, and more photography!

Til next time,

-Ai Nhu

Ps. I know I have promised an April 30th post. Do not think that I have forgotten. Since it is a really important post to me, I want to best prepare for it. Hopefully, it will be up before the end of May (LAWL).

Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-69147624434734677232011-04-30T14:10:00.003-05:002011-04-30T17:37:37.287-05:00Color Me Not
Finals week! This is going be such a tough and tiring week. I'm already breaking out like crazy and my first final hasn't even started yet.

This is a simple outfit that I literally thought of really last minute. It's extremely simple, something that I'm usually not into, but at the same time, I think it has a really laid back edgy feel. Just an experiment and I gotta say, it was extremely fun! The shirt is extremely soft and comfortable, providing a nice and drapy feel. I tried to play up the outfit with floral tights to give a subtle spunk to the monotone outfit. Best of all? This look is extremely inexpensive, something that you all know is, I guess, a trademark of mine. Bargain hunters FTW!

Shirt - Zipia, $8; Tights - Forever21; Shoes - Charlotte Russe, $10 (SALE!)

Stay classy!

Ai Nhu

PS. Haha, I mean Easter. Easter break has been such an awesome break, even if it was only this weekend, Friday, and Monday. On Friday, I went out with my godsister for a shopping rendevouz and ended up spending a good amount of money. I guess that means there will be a lot more posts coming up! Afterwards, we met up with the other VSAs in Chicago for pho. Fun fun fun! Last night, I attended mass with the family and afterwards stayed up until 2 watching Harry Potter with my dad while waiting for our food babies to calm down after coming home from mass. Today, I went down to Glen Ellyn to celebrate Doan Nguon Song's 26th anniversary. Congratulations and I hope you will be even stronger and more united. Also, congrats to the official new truong, Andrew! I wish you guys the best. Thanks for the yummy food and warm hospitality.

Now onto the outfit! I had an amazing time shooting this outfit with Kelly last weekend. Such a fun outfit calls for ridiculous poses. These are a couple, but I'll spare you the rest of the cringe-worthy cutesy poses. I made the wired-headband the night before and it was such a fun and easy project. You guys can get these 'bunny' headbands at H&M or online. Or, sew a piece of long fabric together, string a wire through, and TADA! The skirt adds a fun pop of color to the pastel outfit and the belt was from my mom's closet to give a center. Hope you guys like it!

Skirt: $6.80 - forever 21; Blouse: $8 - zipia.net; Shoes: $40 - Nine West; Belt - mom's; Ring: $1.50 - Forever21

Have a wonderful weekend with your family!

-Ai Nhu
Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-32405183628954796362011-04-21T21:35:00.004-05:002011-04-21T22:02:41.945-05:00StardustThis nail tutorial actually came out as an accident. One day, I decided to paint it gray and it was really pretty until it started wearing off. However, I was way too lazy to do anything about it, yet the tips started looking very gross and the color became dull. Instead of cleaning it with nail polish remover (major laziness), I decided to glam it up!
*Side note: This project was semi inspired by a stellar picture I saw on the NASA website. With that, I tried to recreate the beautiful dust clouds and creations of new stars. For those of you who do not know, I am a physics major and I'm a big cosmology fan, so don't mind the geekiness.

1. The color gets extremely dull and dead at the tip once it's worn for a while. Let's do something about it!

2. Grab a fun, glittery nail polish and lightly paint it through 3/4 of the nail. Let it dry.

3. Go over the top half of the nail with the same glittery nail polish, but this time, don't be as gentle and pack on a few coats of glitter. Let it dry again.

4. Go over the tips of the nail and pack it with lots more coats to create a strong gradient with the glitter. Let it dry and go over with a top coat to secure the glittery flakes. Yay!

Well that was easy, huh? A simple way to glam up the nails for those lazy ladies who can't bother to sit down and redo their nails all of the time. I guess in a way it could be nail polish recycling? Hehe, I need more sleep...

I have been meaning to post these pictures. In March, I made a mini tutorial on this nail design that I thought was extremely easy and simple. However, I just never got around to editing and writing it up. More fashion posts coming soon, I have a lot in store now that school's almost over (well summer school starts right after finals, but that's beside the point).

Speaking of school, I have been extremely busy with my Vietnamese American Student Association (VASA) working on our culture show, VASA by Night. Although it was a smaller scaled show since it was our first time doing something like this, nonetheless it was extremely fun and rewarding in the end. Along with the show, the VASA family also made a short movie, so if you have 13 minutes on your hands, please spend 12min and 30 sec of it watching the movie, and another 30 sec to 'like' and 'subscribe' if you are feeling it. My friend Chong sacrificed a lot of his time to film and edit it for us and I cannot be more pleased with the end result. Done with shameless VASA promotions!

Stay classy!

-Ai Nhu
Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3327788741201982821.post-84831422162035603522011-04-06T23:11:00.002-05:002011-04-06T23:18:42.711-05:00Happy Birthday Beautiful

Happy birthday to one of my best friends ever! This last month has been extremely stressful with midterms, VASA culture show planning, VIA-1 trip, work, and everything else in between. However, everything is falling into place and I could not be more relieved. Additionally, a while ago, I applied for an opportunity with Teen Vogue. A little bit later, I found out that I was accepted to Teen Vogue's Fashion Click, a fashion blogging portion of teenvogue.com! I feel so ecstatic for the opportunity to be a part of Fashion Click, but at the same time, I'm overwhelmed about this also. I feel a bit more pressured to pushing my outfits even more, but I feel like this challenge will help me understand more about my personal style and experiment new things.
I am so thankful for all of those who have supported me, especially my close Stylespirations partner-in-crime, Kelly, who helped me select or adjust different things to enhance my outfits and also provide me with positive energy behind the camera. I am really thankful for the comments as well as the silent readers who fuel me to continue with my blog and experiment with new styles. This is a wonderful opportunity and I cannot wait to be inspired and improve for my future posts!

On the outfit:

The only way I can define it is through the literal form of "business casual". I thought of a mullet as a metaphor for this outfit; serious and appropriate on top, and totally fun and playful for the bottom. I guess it best describes what I'm feeling lately. There are a lot of responsibilities that I have to fulfill and work I have to do, but I'm going full force with optimism and cute flats!

-Ai Nhu
Ai Nhuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14135385007593762335noreply@blogger.com0
